I’ve just recently watched (a few times!) the recently released (on DVD) Macbeth.
All copyrights belong to their respective owners.
It’s a fabulous story for those of you who are not familiar with it plus it’s shot in some fantastic locations.
It just so happens that I visited most of them in 2015!
Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland
The Quiraing in Skye
And around Sligachan and The Fairy Pools in Skye
So, watch the movie and who knows, you may be tempted to visit the shooting locations!
Here are my less cinematic movies of my visits to these locations in 2015.
I think it was about 1982 when a friend recommended a movie to me. That movie was ‘First Blood’. This was my first introduction to the character John Rambo and the actor Sylvester Stallone.
I was soon hooked on the ‘Rocky’ movies. I watched 3 first then 1 and 2.
At that time I was just getting into weight training and had a home gym, this was the poster I had on my wall.
In 1988 I moved to Bolton and started training in a commercial gym. It’s now called J.R.’s Fitness Centre but was originally called Physiques.
It’s ‘Old School’, no saunas or jacuzzis here please!
I use to go in and before I commenced training I’d put a cassette on which had the Rocky tunes on, it always started off with ‘Eye Of The Tiger’.
It wasn’t long before I was given the nickname ‘Rocky’.
I still train there, 26 years later, albeit with a little less enthusiasm. (And I’m still called Rocky).
And…tonight…I’m going to see the guy that has motivated me for over thirty years, they say never meet your heroes, hope I’m not disappointed!
Well, I finally got to see my hero. He was a bit late but worth it! He’s a great raconteur!
Thanks. What’s the matter, you dissentious rogues,
That, rubbing the poor itch of your opinion,
Make yourselves scabs?
The citizens of Rome are hungry. Coriolanus, the hero of Rome, a great soldier and a man of inflexible self-belief despises the people.
His extreme views ignite a mass riot. Rome is bloody. Manipulated and out-maneuvered by politicians and even his own mother Volumnia, Coriolanus is banished from Rome. He offers his life or his services to his sworn enemy Tullus Aufidius.
You common cry of curs! whose breath I hate
As reek o’ the rotten fens, whose loves I prize
As the dead carcases of unburied men
That do corrupt my air,–I banish you.
It’s a fabulous movie with great performances by Ralph Fiennes and Gerard Butler.
A great movie I’ve seen recently is ‘A Lonely Place To Die’. Directed by Julien Gilbey and shot in the Highlands on Red and a Canon 5D.
The opening sequence shot on Buchaille Etive Mor (“the great herdsman of Etive”) is stunning.
It’s a great ‘chase’ movie …about a group of mountaineers in the Scottish Highlands discovering a kidnapped girl and who are then pursued by her captors.
For you ‘outdoorsy’ types, I can highly recommend it !!!
Watching ‘Fair Game’…again. I love Sean Penn, and, it was shot digitally on a ‘Red One’
